FAQ's
Am I eligible for treatment through DOE Medical?
To be eligible, you must: have a diagnosed medical condition that will appear on your medical records or that you have discussed with your doctors (e.g., chronic pain, anxiety, PTSD). Ideally have tried two licensed prescription medications or conventionally recommended treatments such as physiotherapy, CBT, or psychotherapy. Be aged 18 or over and a UK resident. You must be able to provide access to your medical records. Cantourage Clinic will review your case and assess your eligibility on DOE’s behalf.
I’ve only tried over-the-counter medications — can I still be seen?
No. Over-the-counter medications do not meet the treatment history requirement. Patients must have tried prescription medications or recommended treatments (e.g. physiotherapy, psychotherapy).
What happens after I submit the registration form?
Once you complete the form, you’ll be directed to book and pay for a Welcome Appointment with Cantourage Clinic. This appointment includes:
- A medicines reconciliation
- A review of your current and past treatments
- A request for your medical records
- A full eligibility assessment
Do I need to collect my medical records myself?
No. Cantourage Clinic will contact your GP or healthcare provider and request your records on your behalf after you’ve booked your Welcome Appointment.
How long does it take to get my medical records?
Medical records can take up to 28 days to be returned, depending on your GP surgery. However, we’ve been receiving records much quicker in many cases — with some surgeries returning them within 7 days
or even sooner. You’ll be kept informed throughout the process by Cantourage Clinic.
What if I’m not eligible after the records review?
If Cantourage Clinic determines that you're not eligible for treatment following review of your medical records, you’ll receive a full refund for the Welcome Appointment.
Can I get a prescription without an Initial Consultation?
No. A prescription can only be issued following an Initial Consultation with a specialist prescriber at Cantourage Clinic, once eligibility has been confirmed.
Can I choose my cannabis-based medication or product?
Product selection will be discussed with your prescriber during your Initial Consultation and tailored to your individual condition and needs.

Is medical cannabis legal in the UK?
Yes. Medical cannabis has been legal in the UK since November 2018. It can only be prescribed by a specialist doctor registered with the General Medical Council (GMC), and it must be dispensed through a pharmacy registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC). The medicine must be used only by the person it is prescribed for, and in line with the prescription guidance.
How does medical cannabis work?
The cannabis plant contains over 100 active compounds called cannabinoids. These interact with receptors in the body known as CB1 and CB2, which help regulate various bodily functions such as:
Nervous system activity
Pain perception
Sleep
Inflammation
Stress response
Mood
Digestion
Immune system function
What conditions is medical cannabis used for in the UK?
Medical cannabis may be considered for a range of chronic conditions, particularly when at least two licensed treatments have not worked or have caused severe side effects. Common uses include chronic pain, anxiety, PTSD, and neurological conditions. Suitability is assessed on a case-by-case basis.
